The year was 1947, when Robert & Helen Durney expanded their insurance business, when Chuck West asked them to sell steamship tickets up the coast to Alaska. So, began their venture into travel. Chuck West became Westours, which later became Holland America. After 57 years of being family owned, a long time employee, Jene'e Bearden purchased the agency in January of 2004, renaming it Journey Travel in January 2007.
After working for the Durney family for approximately 23 years, first as bookkeeper and commercial agent, later as leisure agent and manager, I made the decision to buy the travel agency when it became available. The name change from Durney Travel & Cruise to Journey Travel came in 2007.
I love this business! It is like no other business. I get to help people plan their vacations and I take pride in finding the best value for them. I also enjoy experiencing first hand the many destinations this world has to offer. Some of the places I've been fortunate to travel to include: China, Australia, Great Britain, Denmark, Spain, Morocco, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Holland, South America, Mexico, Egypt, Guatemala, and many many more destinations.

I am the newest agent to come on board - I got my start in travel about 20 years ago for a brief stint and most of my time since then has been being a mom. Now that mydaughter is in college, I have a chance to get back into travel again. And I'm ready to go! I am a graduate of the Disney College of Knowlege as well as the Princess Cruise University. I look forward for opportunites to learn about new & exciting destinations I can share with my clients. I also look forward to helping others enjoy unforgettable experiences & adventures. When I was in school, I had always wanted to be a flight attendant, but as it turned out, I was too tall. I worked for an insurance agency for many years. After the nest emptied I had the desire to become a travel agent and have been for over 23 years and enjoying every minute of it. I love being around people, planning trips for them and I also love to travel and learn new things about different places and people. You may reach me at my home office (360) 249-3537 or you may catch me at the main office in Aberdeen at 360- 532-2860 or email me at
I started working for the agency in the spring of 1998 as a receptionist and am now helping out as bookkeeper as well. One of the more exciting trips I took was to Turkey. I've also traveled here in the states, learning a little history along the way and I plan on doing more traveling as time permits.
